All roads led to Scoil Ursula on Sunday when hundreds of pupils, parents and staff members made a fond trip down memory lane to reminisce about times past and meet old friends. Displays of photographs in the halla and around the school jogged memories while names were found in roll books dating back to the foundation of the school in 1966. We are hugely indebted to everyone who made this celebration possible from pupils and staff past and present under the guidance of our Deputy Principal, Roy Mitchell, who launched our Jubilee 50 Book on the day. The School Patron, Bishop Kevin, was represented by Canon Tom Hever, who spoke of his own family's association with Scoil Ursula and its predecessors. Our Chairperson Marian Moore paid tribute to the staff of the school past and present who created the wonderful family atmosphere so enjoyed by countless pupils over the half century of its existence. Sligo County Council Cathaoirleach, Rosaleen O' Grady represented the local community while the school principal, Tony Gallagher spoke of his pride at being charged with continuing the rich legacy of Ursuline education into the future. Mr. Mitchell completed the formalities by launching the publication to mark this auspicious milestone in the life of our school. Once again the Parents' Association provided the light refreshments in conjunction with the staff of the school and everybody enjoyed a cuppa and banter while they strolled around the school and compared the current campus with the one they remembered from years ago. Between the showers, guests were able to get outside and admire the wonderful new school garden, that is the latest addition to our continuing development. We look forward with hope and enthusiasm to the next 50 years of Scoil Ursula and to the continued support of our many friends as we embark upon the next stage of our journey to provide excellence in education for the children of our community. Copies of our 50th Anniversary book can be purchased through the school at €10.
