We had such a fun day in school today with our annual Halloween costume competition! There were witches, ghouls, vampires and ghosts galore! Even some teachers joined in the dressing up madness. You can see the winners here and also in next week's local newspapers. Well done to all the boys and girls and especially all of the mummies and daddies who went to such enormous efforts to create these amazing costumes!

Congratulations to two of our pupils who won prizes in the Barna Waste Halloween Recycled Costume Competition. Well done to Conor and Éabha from Junior Infants and Senior Infants who received their prizes from Sean Lacken of Barna Waste today. Pictured also is Mrs Smyth, who organised the Scoil Ursula Recycled Costumes Competition as part of our Greenschools campaign.
Well done to everybody who took part in our Multi-Cultural Day yesterday. It was a wonderful celebration of diversity, where all our pupils got an opportunity to sample a variety of aspects of life in different countries. One-fifth of Scoil Ursula's pupil population have origins in different nations and the children displayed fantastic projects incorporating aspects of culture such as language, history, faith, fashion, music, sport and off course the ever-popular food-tasting. A big thank you to our Multi-Cultural Co-ordinator, Mrs Mc Moreland, for organising this event and preparing the wonderful 'Where we are From - Map of the World ' backdrop to the display (above) and also to our Language Support Teacher, Ms Branley, for her input into the day. Thanks also to the parents who cooked long into the night preparing the delicious food we all enjoyed sampling on the day. Enjoy a snapshot of the event in pictures below: Here are some of the many children who took part in multicultural day with their own stall showcasing their culture!
Our Annual Lilac Day in aid of the Blathnaid Foley Trust for Cancer Research was a great success!! The school was sea of lilac and purple last Friday and we raised €500 for this wonderful cause. Well done everybody!!! Bhí Lá Glas againn ar Aoine Sheachtain na Gaeilge le ceol, craic, rinnce, dramaíocht agus Tráth na gCeist. Bhí lá íontach ag gach duine agus comghairdeas do na Smólaigh a bhuaigh Tráth na gCeist i mbliana. D'ullmhaigh Rang a 6 'Flashmob an Dreoilín' don scoil ar fad. We are calling all volunteers from 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th class to join us again to have some fun for a few hours. Full Brown Uniform and a Santa Hat will be worn by all students. A permission slip has been sent home via your children. There will be a 1 hour rehearsal in the cookery room at 6.15pm on Thursday 13th - we would ask that all parents collect their children on both days and that permission slips would be completed and returned on Thursday 13th at the rehearsal. We would also be very grateful for any parents help on the day to help us collect money. We had a Halloween Dress-Up to raise funds for our Greenschools Programme. The children dressed up in Halloween costumes and because it was for Greenschools, they were asked to make some or all of their costumes from recycled material.
The winning costume was a jellyfish designed from an old umbrella and bubble wrap. Well done to all our designers!!! Happy Halloween everybody!!! |
