This prestigious accolade is in recognition of the school's efforts to promote a culture of activity and health among its pupils. We are grateful to our ASF Co-ordinator, Mrs Eiméar Robinson and her hard-working committee who put so much work into getting all aspects of the project up-and-running. As we are beginning our new school year we wanted to take this opportunity to remind all the boys and girls and their parents of the importance of Healthy Eating. We have a Healthy Eating Policy in Scoil Ursula and always try to promote a healthy diet. Please take a few minutes to familiarise yourself with our Healthy Eating Policy and have a look at some of the advice in the leaflet below from Safe Food. It's only with the help and support of parents and families that we'll be able to successfully implement our Healthy Eating Policy in the school.
Congratulations to the three winners of our Active School Flag Competition. We had competitions for pupils to create an Active School Flag Motto, a Logo and a colouring competition too! Well done to our three winners: Ellen, Danielle and Zusia! Our new Active School Motto is: It's So Cool to be an Active School! As part of the Green Schools initiative in our school and tying in with the recent launch of the Active School campaign we participated in the National Scoot on Wednesday (SOW) Day last week. Lots of the children scooted to school and we had scooter races in the yard too. This is all to highlight the different healthier and greener ways to travel to school. It was great fun and we hope to do it again soon! Following on from the amazing success of our school in achieving our 5th Green Flag recently we have decided to promote fitness in Scoil Ursula by participating in the Active School Flag programme. This will involve encouraging all of our school community to be more active throughout the day and to celebrate all of our many "active" achievements in sport and play. We are going to run a competition to select a logo and slogan for the programme in our school. There will also be some responsible senior pupils organising games for the younger pupils in our school during break times. The programme was launched this morning at our Senior Assembly where Mr. Gallagher and Ms. E. Caffrey spoke about the importance of being active and all the fun you can have doing it. There are lots of ideas and resources that parents can check out by following this link. We hope you will encourage all of your friends and family to become more active and join in the great fun we will have in Scoil Ursula by making our school the most active school in Sligo...or maybe even in the country! |
