We will be marking the event in Scoil Ursula in a number of ways throughout the school beginning on Monday with a Prayer Service at 10:00am in the Halla. See below the CSW Poster and a letter to parents with some ideas how to mark CSW at home with your children. Well done to our youngest stars of stage, the Junior Infant classes who performed a beautiful uplifting nativity play this morning called "Woops a Daisy Angel". A big thank you to their wonderful teachers, Ms Cogan, Ms Dwyer & Mrs Corcoran who produced and directed this marvellous performance. We also thank our Student Council for their ushering and fund-raising all this week at all our shows. Thanks to them and the generosity of our parents & staff, we raised €750 for the Marcus Moore Trust for Cancer Research and Sligo Social Services. We are grateful to our Chairperson, Marian Moore, (Marcus' mum) and Lisa (his sister) who provided us with spot prizes for our after-show raffles in aid of these worthy causes. Well done to everybody!!! See some pics below and a video snippet. More pics of the other shows to follow :-) Congratulations to the girls and boys of 2nd Class who recently received their 1st Holy Communion in the Cathedral. Our heartfelt thanks to their teachers, Ms Burke & Ms Crowley for preparing them so well for their special day. Our thanks also to our wonderful choir and their director, Mrs Corcoran for enhancing the ceremony so beautifully and to recent past pupil Alice Purcell, who accompanied them on the organ. We had a lovely assembly to celebrate Catholic Schools Week in our school. We remembered the Feast Day of Saint Angela, the founder of the Ursuline Order and is the Feast of St. Brigid. There are more than 2,800 Catholic schools in Ireland and this week we took the time to celebrate the work that schools just like ours do to help us all to be the kind of people that Jesus calls us to be. The theme of Catholic Schools Week this year was Catholic Schools in the Community of Faith: Sharing the Good News. Some classes marked Grandparents Day with projects and visits. Angela Merici, or Angela de Merici, (21 March 1474 – 27 January 1540) was an Italian religious leader and saint. She founded the Order of Ursulines in 1535 in Brescia. She named the order after Saint Ursula, an earlier saint to whom she was devoted. We celebrate her feast day on January 27th. Prayer: Saint Angela, you were not afraid of change. You did not let stereotypes keep you from serving. Help us to overcome our fear of change in order to follow God's call and allow others to follow theirs. Amen Catholic Schools Week 2013: Catholic Schools in the Community of Faith: Sharing the Good News The theme for Catholic Schools Week 2013 is: ‘Catholic Schools in the Community of Faith: Sharing the Good News’. Catholic Schools Week 2013 will be mindful of two major issues for the year 2013 (a) Year of Faith and (b) Share the Good News. The theme of CSW 2013 reflects both. CSW 2013 will begin on Sunday January 27 2013 and end on February 3 2013. We will be marking the event in Scoil Ursula in a number of ways throughout the school beginning on Monday with a Prayer Service at the Mary Garden and culminating in a St. Brigid's Day Assembly on Friday Our annual Carol Singing event will take place in the Quayside Shopping Centre on Saturday 15th of December from 3.30pm to 5.30pm. We are calling all volunteers from 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th class to join us again to have some fun for a few hours. Full Brown Uniform and a Santa Hat will be worn by all students. A permission slip has been sent home via your children. There will be a 1 hour rehearsal in the cookery room at 6.15pm on Thursday 13th - we would ask that all parents collect their children on both days and that permission slips would be completed and returned on Thursday 13th at the rehearsal. We would also be very grateful for any parents help on the day to help us collect money. Our Confirmation Class travelled to the International Eucharistic Congress last week. It was an enjoyable and uplifting event. We took part in a very special mass with hundreds of children from around Ireland and the world. We saw an exhibition about Army Chaplaincy and one about the Apostles journey with Jesus. We also visiting the beautiful Rosary Garden and prayed for our special intentions. Ms Caffrey also met one of her heroes, Dublin footballer, Ger Brennan (see picture), who took part in our Mass and shared his faith experience with us. It was a great day and we are thankful to our teachers, Ms Greavy & Ms Caffrey, for bringing us and to Goretti from Sligo Youth Ministry for being with us too. What an amazing, exciting day today was! Mission Day was a huge success again this year with the pupils of our school raising over €1,000 in one hour for charitable causes! Many many thanks to everyone involved. A lot of hard work goes into making the day a great one and it really showed today! Check out our Facebook Event |
