We had a Halloween Dress-Up to raise funds for our Greenschools Programme. The children dressed up in Halloween costumes and because it was for Greenschools, they were asked to make some or all of their costumes from recycled material.
The winning costume was a jellyfish designed from an old umbrella and bubble wrap. Well done to all our designers!!! Happy Halloween everybody!!! Two Tag Rugby teams from 6th Class took part in this year's Tag Rugby Blitz at the IT today. It was a very enjoyable day and our two teams, St Ursula's & St. Angela's, acquitted themselves well against teams from Ballymote, the Gaelscoil, Carbury and Calry.
Congratulations to Ms Mitchell and her husband Seán Mc Hugh who were married in Maugherow Church on Saturday. We wish them long life, health and happiness!! Well done to our October Student of the Month and Handwriter of the Month winners. The presentations were made on Dress-Up for Greenschools Day hence the costumes below.
The John Murray Radio Show popped in to Scoil Ursula last week and talked to some of our 1st Class pupils about Halloween and Sligo. The children dressed up in their costumes and chatted to Colm, the show's interviewer. The show was broadcast on Friday during the Sligo Live Show and you can listen back by clicking on the link below. The kids are on at around the 35 minute mark.http://www.rte.ie/radio/radioplayer/rteradioweb.html#!rii=9%3A10067691%3A4502%3A26%2D10%2D2012%3A Hard luck to our Girls' Mini-7s Team, who narrowly failed to qualify for this year's finals. In St. Patrick's GAA Grounds, Dromard, today the girls played superbly well to overcome the challenge of Corballa NS in their first match. Next up was the decider against a bigger physically stronger High Park NS team, who got off to a flying start and built up a ten-point lead by half-time. However, our girls never gave up and almost brought off a miraculous comeback, outscoring their opponents by nine points in the second half. But try as they might, Scoil Ursula just couldn't get that vital last goal and went down by the narrowest of margins on a scoreline of 3-2 to 3-1. Well done to all our players and their coach, Ms Hoey, on a terrific effort this year. Congratulations to all our runners who took part in the Connacht Primary Schools Cross-Country Finals on Saturday. Despite the appalling conditions, the Scoil Ursula athletes all acquitted themselves very well and did their school proud!!
Congratulations to our Girls’ Mini-7s Team who qualified for the next round of the competition with victories over St. John’s, St Brendan’s and the Mercy Primary. They play the next round against Corballa NS and Highpark NS in St. Patrick's, Dromard next Monday at 10:30am. Hard luck to the boys who narrowly failed to progress losing out in the final to St. John’s by a mere two points. There was some consolation, however, when Sean Casey qualified for the next phase of the skills competition. Good luck to all in the next round!!
