Muffin Fundraiser

25/6/2013

"Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt."

This is the famous Athlete Oath of Special Olympics. It encapsulates everything about Special Olympics, athletic excellence, determination to reach for your potential and bravery in the face of enormous odds.
This year is the 10th Anniversary of the Special Olympics World Games and to mark it Scoil Ursula held a fundraiser for Special Olympics Ireland where we sold mini-muffins kindly donated by Cuisine de France. We raised €305 in one day for this very important charity. By donating this money the children and families of Scoil Ursula are helping to raise vital funds that will help Special Olympics Ireland to provide sports training and competition to people with intellectual disabilities across Ireland.
Thank You!
Below is an emotional clip of just how amazing those World Games in Ireland in 2003 turned out!

If you would like to get involved in this very worthy cause by donating your time or money then please click here to find out more.

Scoil Ursula was presented with its 5th Green Flag for work on Biodiversity at an awards ceremony on the 28th of May in the Breaffy House hotel in Castlebar. Our Green Schools Co-ordinator, Mrs Smyth, along with our Deputy Principal, Mrs Corcoran and  committee members, Tara  and Kevin represented the school at the event. Congratulations again to all involved in achieving this prestigious honour for the school.

Spanish Classes

21/6/2013

The after school Spanish initiative was another Scoil Ursula success story of 2013.
Our joint 6th class pupils threw themselves into a series of fun lessons of language immersion and emerged chatting about music, family, hobbies, food and the confidence to meet and greet in any part of the Latino world.

The children also got to sample a little Spanish culture including a real Spanish fiesta. They enjoyed Spanish chorizo sausage, nachos and cheese and spanish valencian orange juice. The children danced the 'Macarena' and of course sang along to 'La Bamba'. It was a very worthwhile spanish, cultural experience for all.
*In case your children can't translate just yet Virginia said “Work in Scoil Ursula has been fantastic, all the students were eager to learn Spanish and were highly motivated. We all had a good time during the course. It was no doubt an extraordinary course”.

Mr. Mitchell, Ailbhe Foley, Conor Bastible and Ailbhe Morgan made their way out to Ocean FM Studios in Collooney Sligo today to be interviewed by Francie Boylan live on the radio. They were there to promote their amazing pantomime "Cinderella and Rockerfella" which is on for its final night tonight at 7pm in Scoil Ursula Hall.  You can hear the interview by pressing the play button below this post.
It has been a huge success so far and was a sell out show last night so be sure to come early to get a good seat and sit back for a great nights entertainment!
Well done to all of the boys and girls involved in this wonderful production and a special congratulations to Conor, Ailbhe M and Ailbhe F on their interview!

Cinderella and Rockerfella

6/6/2013

Picture
It is with great excitement that Scoil Ursula will present their first panto-style musical Cinderella and Rockerfella.

This production will provide audiences with all the essential pantomime ingredients of Ugly Sister dames, a rag-to-riches heroine, a dashing prince and a dust-sprinkling fairy godmother. This show with will have the audiences humming tunes all the way home, with a few ‘hisses’, ‘boos’ and ‘it’s behind you’s to boot!

This fantastic summer special will take place next week on the 11th, 12th and 13th of June at 7 pm in the Scoil Ursula Halla. Tickets will be sold on the door at just 3 euro for adults and 1 euro for children. This production is in aid of Cystic Fibrosis. The children on Scoil Ursula can also buy tickets in school each day.

A very special charity close to the heart of Scoil Ursula, as our very own teacher Ms. Caffrey, whose brave cousin Tríona Priestley has been battling this disease for the last 14 years.
