About Our School

INTRODUCTION:

Scoil Ursula, is named in honour of St. Ursula, who is the patron Saint of the Ursuline Order of Religious Sisters, to which the sisters belong. Ursula was chosen as she was a role model for women, a contemporary patroness for learning and a courageous leader.

The present building was opened in February, 1966. It was already too small for the numbers on roll and in 1975 an additional infant block of six rooms was completed. This building was refurbished in the Summer of 2000. The senior part of the school underwent major developments over the summer of 2007 with new floors, windows, doors, sinks and toilets being installed.

There are currently 370 pupils on roll. The teaching staff numbers 19 full time teachers, including the Principal, 15 Mainstream Teachers,  a Special Educational Needs Team comprising three Full-Time and one Part -Time teachers responsible for Resource, Learning & Language Support. The school has six Special Needs Assistants and  a full-time secretary and care-taker.

ACCOMMODATION:

The school campus comprises two main blocks, accommodating Infants & 1st classes and 3rd to 6th classes respectively.   Other facilities include a hall owned by the Ursuline Order, a Staffroom, a library, a multi-purpose room, a Resource room and some storage areas. The school grounds provide adequate play area for the children in three sections and there is a small playing field used by children from 4th to 6th classes for team sports.
