We had such a fun day in school today with our annual Halloween costume competition! There were witches, ghouls, vampires and ghosts galore! Even some teachers joined in the dressing up madness. You can see the winners here and also in next week's local newspapers. Well done to all the boys and girls and especially all of the mummies and daddies who went to such enormous efforts to create these amazing costumes!

17 athletes from Scoil Ursula went to the Sligo Regional Sports Complex on Friday to try their hand at the three triathlon events of swimming, cycling and running. They all had a very enjoyable time and are being encouraged to participate in one of Ireland's fastest growing sports into the future. Scoil Ursula was honoured with a visit from the President of the GAA, Aogán Ó Fearghail. He was accompanied by County Board Chairman, Joe Taaffe, County Secretary, Gerry O’ Connor, our County GAA Games Manager, Liam Óg Gormley, our Football Coach, Ross Donovan and our hurling coach, Benny Kenny. Also in attendance were Marian Moore, Chairperson of our Board of Management, Gerry Moore representing our Parents and the link to St. Mary’s GAA Club and Pat Maquire from our local hurling club, Naomh Eoin. A very popular guest was past pupil and current county star, Kyle Cawley. The President was in Sligo to mark two significant milestones in the journey of our school and of our local club St. Mary’s. This year, Scoil Ursula celebrates 50 years of teaching and learning on the Strandhill Road and St. Mary’s is celebrating its 40th anniversary of providing Gaelic games and other GAA activities in our locality. Scoil Ursula has close links with our local club, St. Mary’s, and County Board Chairman, Joe Taaffe paid tribute to the work that the school and club are doing to promote Gaelic Games in the locality. In his address, An t-Uachtarán emphasised the enjoyment of participation in all sports and encouraged the children to ‘Move more and eat less!!’ Our Chairperson, Marian Moore presented the President with Annie West’s “Yeats in Love”, which we hope will remind him of his visit here in the years to come. After a packed assembly in the school hall the President went outside to view the coaching schemes in the school and before he left, officially raised the Health Promoting School’s Flag recently received by Mrs Kernan and her hard-working committee. Congratulations to the Scoil Ursula Cross Country Athletics teams who performed so well at Sligo IT on Saturday. Well done to the Senior Girls' team, who won Silver and to the Junior Girls' Team who also qualified for the Connacht Finals next Saturday at the same venue. Congratulations also to Liadán, who won a bronze medal in the individual Junior Girls' Race and to Sergey, who qualified for Connacht in the Boys' Senior Race. Good luck to all our qualifiers on Saturday!!
Congratulations to our first Students and Handwriters of the Month of the school year!! Well done everybody.!!
