We had another successful Supervalu Athletics Fest on Friday, when 36 athletes from Scoil Ursula participated in this very enjoyable annual event in Sligo IT. Six out of our nine teams qualified for finals on the day. Out of those finalists we had a second, a third and a fourth place finish and these out of competitions of thirty-two participants or more. Our Senior Girls came 2nd in their 100m sprint while our Senior Boys came in third in their 100m race. Well done to all our athletes on a brilliant display!!
Congratulations to the Scoil Ursula Cross Country Athletics teams who performed so well on Saturday. Well done to the two boys' teams, who won silver and qualified for the Connacht Finals next weekend! Congratulations to Fionn & Michael who came 1st and 3rd in the Senior Boys Race. Good luck to our sprint athletes who perform in Sligo IT on Friday!!!
There was heartbreak in Markievicz Park on Saturday as our Girls' Football Team lost out in a pulsating final to Scoil Naomh Molaise by just one point. It was a fantastic display by both teams who served up a most entertaining end-to-end game of football which had the supporters from both schools enthralled to the final whistle. Scoil Ursula started slowly in the first half and fell behind their opponents by a few points by half time. However, the found their rhythm early in the second half and some excellent combined play saw them levelling the match with minutes to go. Unfortunately, they weren't able to find that elusive score to get their noses in front and the Grange team came back strongly at the finish and got the winning point at the death.
Well done to our girls for a fabulous year's football and to our coaches Ms Caffrey & Ms Munnelly who had the team in great shape for the final.
Well done to our Girls' and Boys' teams, who both started with a 100% record over their first two fixtures in this year's competition. Both teams had good wins over Ransboro NS and Carraroe NS last week. They now need only one more win to make certain of qualification to the semi-finals. Next up is Ballymote NS on this coming Thursday in Kent Park at 12:00. We wish all concerned well and thank our coaches Ms Caffrey, Ms Munnelly, Ms Burke, Ms Caffrey and a special thank you to Ms Clarke, who leaves us this week.
Congratulations to our girls GAAmigos team who were runners-up in the county final held recently in Summerhill College. The girls lost out by the narrowest margin to Mullaghroe NS. They scored 42 out of a possible 45 in their skills tests with the winners achieving 43. Well done to the girls for all the hard work they put in over the past few weeks. Maybe next year, we will go all the way!!
Congratulations to our Girls GAAmigos team who qualified for the county finals of this year's skills competition!! Hard luck to the boys team who narrowly failed to get through after a brave effort.

Sligo Triathlon club's annual Club Try a Tri is taking place on April 6th so spread the word. It is open as usual for adults and juniors who are newcomers to the sport. As these are super sprint distances, we also want to encourage individuals who have participated in a limited number of triathlons to also participate in this event especially as it is a good means of training for the season ahead. So this event is not just limited to 'newbies'!
This year we really want to encourage juniors aged between 10-18 years to participate and be exposed to this growing sport. If students aren’t prepared to participate individually, it is hoped that they will be encouraged to take part in a relay team. We will have 2 separate race events a Children’s Event and a Junior and Adults Event.
The age categories for the Children's Event are as follows:
10 -11 Years
12 -13 Years
14 -15 Years
The distances will be: 200m swim, 4km cycle, 2 km run
All activity will take place as usual at the Sports Complex.
All info is contained below and race entry is through Triathlon Ireland. https://www.triathlonireland-newserver.com/local-races.html
As this is pool based Tri, numbers are limited and places will be filled on a first come first served basis. Don't leave entering until the last minute as places are liked to be snapped up quickly. You have been warned!
We are also hosting a FREE Junior coaching day on Sunday March 2nd at Sligo Sports Complex as an introduction to the sport of triathlon. To all interested juniors, please email the following email address in order to register and obtain further details: firstname.lastname@example.org. For all info you may seek regarding this event, please contact the aforementioned email address.
Congratulations to Danielle, who represented Scoil Ursula at the recent Connacht Primary School Swimming Championships. She won bronze medals in the 50m Butterfly & Breaststroke and goes on to the National Finals in the National Aquatic Arena in February. Well done, Danielle!!
Congratulations to our Hurling Team who made history by becoming the first ever hurling team from Scoil Ursula to gain a victory in a Cumann na mBunscoil game. The team travelled to Rathcormac today, where they had a deserved 9-point win against the home side in less than ideal conditions for hurling. They now need one more win after Christmas to qualify for the next stage of the competition. Hurling is a fledgling sport in the school with coaching only introduced in 2010 with 1st & 2nd classes. That early work by Coach John Mullins was built on by his successor Benny Kenny and is now paying off as these young hurlers enter the senior classes. We entered the competition for the first time last year but didn't manage a win. This first victory is an important step in building confidence in the squad and encouraging more pupils to take up this fantastic game of ours. Well done to all our players on this great achievement!!
