Congratulations to our Girls’ Mini-7s Team who qualified for the next round of the competition with victories over St Brendan’s and the Mercy Primary. Well done also to Eden Rooney, who qualified for the next phase of the kicking competition. A big thank you to Mrs Robinson who took care of the girls on the day. Hard luck to the boys who bowed out of the competition with losses to a bigger and stronger St. John's team and also to a determined St. Brendan's. There was some consolation for the boys from a victory over Mercy Primary. Good luck to our girls in the next round!!
Our school patron, Bishop Kevin Doran, has published his first Pastoral Letter entitled ‘A Future Full of Hope’. It will be distributed to all Catholic families in the school during the week. Bishop Kevin is also making the letter available to non-Catholic families who wish to have a copy. If you would like a copy please drop in to Mary’s office or contact her at 0719162835.
We had a great turn-out at our Clean-Up Meitheal today!! A big thank you to all our volunteers, which included parents, students, past students, grandparents, past and present staff!! Two hours hard work of sweeping, leaf-blowing, gathering, planting, weeding, pruning and composting made a huge difference to the look of our school. Our gratitude goes to our organiser-in-chief, Sharon Carleton, whose idea it was. Well done everybody and if you didn't make it today, we plan to make it a seasonal event so come along next time round. Well done to our hurling team, who qualified for the quarter-finals of this year's Cumann na mBunscoil competition in Kent Park today. The team had victories over Maugherow NS (5-1) and Ransboro NS (3-0) to set up a group final clash with Rathcormac NS. In an exciting decider, Scoil Usula emerged victorious by 6 points to 3 and qualify as Group 2 winners. They will meet the runners-up of Group 1 later in the month. Well done to all the lads, particularly our captain, Michael Morgan, who led by example with three outstanding displays, Kacper Janowski, who was solid in defence and to Fintan Campbell, whose sharp-shooting was a huge factor in our victories. Also well done to our new players, Connor Flynn and Eli Rooney, both of whom made their debuts today with Connor chipping in with a goal. The players involved in the three games were Eoghan Furey, Johnny Stewart, Kacper Janowski, Ben Fahy, Eamonn Flynn, Finn Young, Michael Morgan (C), Stephen Mahon, Fintan Campbell, Muna Islam, Connor Flynn and Eli Rooney. Comhgairdeas to gach duine!!!
The girls from 4th & 5th Classes participated in a very enjoyable soccer event in the Showgrounds on recently. The fun day involved small sided games; fun shooting and target games; face painting; and music, with the emphasis on encouraging girls to play soccer with their local clubs. Sligo Rovers players put the girls through their paces and they all got a FIFA T-Shirt to bring away as a memento of the occasion.
