20 athletes from Scoil Ursula travelled to Sligo IT to take part in the Fit2Walk 1K Race-Walking Challenge where they met World 50Km Champion Rob Heffernan from Cork. Well done to everyone involved!!!
Our 6th Classes recently took part in a Touch Rugby Blitz Day in Sligo Rugby Club. Schools from all over the county participated and our three teams, the Scorpions, the Slammers and the Sonics acquitted themselves very well with the Scorpions completing a "Grand Slam" by winning all of their matches. A big thank you to the 6th Class teachers, Mrs Calleary and Ms Caffrey for organising the teamsupervising the event Excitement is building as we prepare for an exciting book launch on Wednesday. Last year Ms Hoey's 5th Class (currently Mrs Calleary's 6th Class) wrote and illustrated a novel called 'Rebellion in the Village'. It was a combined effort by all the pupils under the tutorship and direction of Ms Hoey, Ms Branley (herself a published writer) and Mr Mitchell during a series of writers' workshops. The novel has already received a glowing endorsement from renowned children's author Eoin Colfer. A number of media events are planned in the run-up to the launch. The launch itself takes place on Wednesday, November the 13th at 7pm in the halla and copies of the book are available at the special price of €7 each. Well done to our Girls’ Mini-7s team who qualified for the finals of the competition in St. Mary's on Thursday last. Unfortunately, we came up against a very big and strong Castlerock team in our semi-final and despite the best efforts of our girls, they won through to the final where they defeated Calry. A big thank you to Ms Munnelly & Ms Caffrey for taking charge of the team during the season! We can now look forward to the Cumann na mBunscoil championship with great hope. St. Mary's GAA Club Nursery Programme for 4 to 6 year olds starts Monday 11th November in St. John's School Temple Street & runs for 6 weeks. The aim is to introduce young children to Gaelic football in a safe and enjoyable environment & new players are always welcome! It will take place from 6pm to 7pm costing only €2 per child per night. No prior GAA experience is required & all are welcome to attend! Well done to our October Students of the Month and Hand-Writers of the Month and to Kian who brings home the Trophy for the month.
