Yesterday morning we lost a dear friend and former colleague from Scoil Ursula. Oliver Spellman was the caretaker of the school for many long years. A lot of the parents who went to Scoil Ursula and indeed some of the teachers too will remember Oliver as the big strong man that he was as he went about his work when they were pupils here themselves. Many of the staff and former staff have such wonderful memories of Oliver, his good humour, his passion for football and the countless times he went above and beyond the call of duty for the school. He is dearly missed by all of his Scoil Ursula family but even more so by his loving wife Maeve and two daughters, Ursula and Fiona and all of his extended family and friends from Sligo, Buninadden and beyond. Tomorrow the choir of Scoil Ursula, including past pupils who have gone on to both Summerhill College and the Ursuline College will sing at the Mass of the Resurrection for Oliver in the Cathedral. This is a fitting tribute to a man who loved a great song. Rest in Peace Oliver, we'll miss you. Removal and funeral details can be accessed by clicking here. |
