We are having our Annual Jersey Day to coincide with his visit. We are asking our pupils to wear in a GAA jersey and contribute €1 to defray some of the cost of the Coaching Scheme. Thank you for your support!!
Scoil Ursula will have the honour of welcoming GAA President, Liam O' Neill, to the school when he visits Sligo this coming Thursday. He is coming to support the work that is going on to promote the development of Gaelic Games among young people. He will launch this year's Coaching Scheme which begins in the school next week and which has proved an outstanding success over the past number of years. Liam's beginnings in GAA administration began with Cumann na mBunscol in his native County Laois many years ago and, as a Primary School Principal, he has a keen interest in developing the best possible programmes at primary school level with the emphasis on skills development and enjoyment rather than competition. We are honoured to be among only two Primary Schools that the President will visit on his tour of County Sligo. He is due to arrive at the school at 1:40 and will be met by delegates from the school as well as our local clubs, St. Mary's Football Club and Naomh Eoin Hurling Club.
We are having our Annual Jersey Day to coincide with his visit. We are asking our pupils to wear in a GAA jersey and contribute €1 to defray some of the cost of the Coaching Scheme. Thank you for your support!! Hard luck to our Girls' Mini-7s Team, who narrowly failed to qualify for this year's finals. In St. Patrick's GAA Grounds, Dromard, today the girls played superbly well to overcome the challenge of Corballa NS in their first match. Next up was the decider against a bigger physically stronger High Park NS team, who got off to a flying start and built up a ten-point lead by half-time. However, our girls never gave up and almost brought off a miraculous comeback, outscoring their opponents by nine points in the second half. But try as they might, Scoil Ursula just couldn't get that vital last goal and went down by the narrowest of margins on a scoreline of 3-2 to 3-1. Well done to all our players and their coach, Ms Hoey, on a terrific effort this year. Congratulations to our Girls’ Mini-7s Team who qualified for the next round of the competition with victories over St. John’s, St Brendan’s and the Mercy Primary. They play the next round against Corballa NS and Highpark NS in St. Patrick's, Dromard next Monday at 10:30am. Hard luck to the boys who narrowly failed to progress losing out in the final to St. John’s by a mere two points. There was some consolation, however, when Sean Casey qualified for the next phase of the skills competition. Good luck to all in the next round!!
