Congratulations to our Hurling Team who made history by becoming the first ever hurling team from Scoil Ursula to gain a victory in a Cumann na mBunscoil game. The team travelled to Rathcormac today, where they had a deserved 9-point win against the home side in less than ideal conditions for hurling. They now need one more win after Christmas to qualify for the next stage of the competition. Hurling is a fledgling sport in the school with coaching only introduced in 2010 with 1st & 2nd classes. That early work by Coach John Mullins was built on by his successor Benny Kenny and is now paying off as these young hurlers enter the senior classes. We entered the competition for the first time last year but didn't manage a win. This first victory is an important step in building confidence in the squad and encouraging more pupils to take up this fantastic game of ours. Well done to all our players on this great achievement!!
Congratulations to our November Students and Handwriters of the Month. Well done everybody and keep up the good work!!! The school was visited recently by a delegation from the Fr. Flanagan League Society in the USA. They came to honour one of last year's 6th Class pupils, Fatima Jamshaid, who helped design the Society's new crest. Fatima, now a student in the Ursuline College, took part in a competition to design a crest in keeping with the mission of Fr. Edward, Flanagan, a Roscommon born priest who went to Summerhill College. Her design and two others were combined to form the final prototype, which will be used by the society in all its literature and promotional work into the future. Fatima was presented with memorabilia associated with Fr. Flanagan and Boystown by the President of the society, Steve Wolf, a former resident of Boystown, Nebraska. A big thank you to 6th Class teacher, Mrs Siobhán Calleary, who organised the competition in the school! Scoil Ursula was presented with its 5th Green Flag for work on Biodiversity at an awards ceremony on the 28th of May in the Breaffy House hotel in Castlebar. Our Green Schools Co-ordinator, Mrs Smyth, along with our Deputy Principal, Mrs Corcoran and committee members, Tara and Kevin represented the school at the event. Congratulations again to all involved in achieving this prestigious honour for the school. Mr. Mitchell, Ailbhe Foley, Conor Bastible and Ailbhe Morgan made their way out to Ocean FM Studios in Collooney Sligo today to be interviewed by Francie Boylan live on the radio. They were there to promote their amazing pantomime "Cinderella and Rockerfella" which is on for its final night tonight at 7pm in Scoil Ursula Hall. You can hear the interview by pressing the play button below this post. It has been a huge success so far and was a sell out show last night so be sure to come early to get a good seat and sit back for a great nights entertainment!
