Congratulations to everyone!

Scoil Ursula will be hosting the Sligo Spelling Bee Final tomorrow in the Halla from 12 to 1:30pm. It promises to be a great showcase of talent from all the children involved and we can't wait to see who wins! Good luck to all involved!

There was drumming galore today in Scoil Ursula when Peter Crann came by to facilitate a samba drumming workshop.
Children had experience of many different types of drums and were able to hear the way the drumbeat brings life to music and story.
Peter is recently back in Ireland after spending time in Senegal teaching children there about Irish music and has returned to teach Irish children the beat of African music.

  • Catholic Schools Week is an opportunity to celebrate our Catholic schools as part of the Christian’s community’s effort to truly be Christ’s Body active in our world.  The 2012 theme reflects the various ways that the characteristic spirit of the Catholic school enables and encourages pupils and staff to be agents for change, to live the Gospel and to be the body of Christ in our world.
  • The Catholic Schools Week Steering Group has prepared resources for use in both primary and post primary during Catholic Schools Week 2012.  These resources are available on www.catholicbishops.ie and can be used by: students in the classroom; staff members; parents; members of boards of management; and, the wider parish community.

North Connaught Youth Services provide workshops on relevant issues to young people and those who work with them.  At present we are considering the need for an interactive workshop  on INTERNET SAFETY  to children in primary schools in Sligo.  I am aware that training is provide to your teachers on such issues.
The workshop uses quizes, crosswords, word search and puzzles, decoding secret message game and other games aimed at different ages.  I would be grateful if you would let us know if you think there is a need for this provision and is it being covered sufficiently by yourselves at present.

The workshop is free and covers:
  1. Kids Rules for online safety (for pre-teens)
  2. Dealing with Cyberbullying
  3. Sharing Information on-line
  4. Becoming net smart
