Polar Regions!

In Ms. Regan's class we have been busy learning all about the Arctic and Antarctic- which are a bit like Ireland with all this snow we are having at the minute!

The children have taken part in science experiments to Grow our Own Gummy Bear. (Using cola bottles, an explorer has to use what they have available!)

The children's art showed us the magical colours of the Northern Lights, and in Maths children made their own penguin friends using lots of different 2D shapes.

Below are some images of all our hard work and a project undertaken by the children who braved the snow yesterday!!

2nd class had a great week being young scientists!

We hypothesized what would happen in various experiments such as adding mentos to diet coke and what happens when we mix milk, food colouring and dish soap!!

We were lucky enough to have Dr. Steven Daly visit the classroom and show us some explosive experiments!! Thank you again Steven :)

We look forward to continue being scientists all throughout 2nd Class!

Christmas Shoebox Appeal

We have been learning about empathy and St Vincent De Paul in 2nd class. Understanding that not all children are as lucky as us, we decided to help children that are not as fortunate by taking part in the wonderful Christmas Shoebox appeal. Children gathered toys and other treats to be placed in a shoebox. These will be sent by Team Hope to children for Christmas.
A big thanks to the children and their families that took part, well done!!! :)

We have been learning all about bats in 2nd class.
We carried out research in the computer lab using worldbookonline.com and dkfindout.com
Then, we made these videos in class to share all the new information we learned!
Bats hunt their prey at night using echolocation.

This song is a fun way to remember what echolocation is!

  5. Next, look for the “t” sign along the bottom of your screen. Press the “t” to add text to your page.
  6. If you are happy with that page and would like to make a new page, create a new page by the following the + symbol on the bottom of your screen.
  7. Continue making new pages until you have finished your story.
Conclusion: You can make your own library of books! If you do not have an ipad there are also similar apps available on other devices.

This week we have been skip counting by 2, 4 and 8 to start multiplying. We found some fun songs to help us along the way. How about you try and search youtube for some fun counting songs at home? Maybe you could even make your own rap or song to help you remember. Here is a link to our favourite song to help us count in 8s. Teacher gets so confused at the end!!

We also had some Maths homework online.
you can follow the links to play.
