Today we had our last day in school before the Halloween break. In Scoil Ursula we love being a Green School so many of us wore costumes made of recycled materials. Have a look through our costumes. We are very creative. Thanks to all the Mums and Dads who helped the children make such a fantastic effort.

We love P.E. We also love Maths. There is nothing better than doing maths and P.E. together! We gather in groups and make different shapes. We are so clever and are great at working together.

We have been learning all about bats. We came up with many questions we wanted answered. We were very interested to find out all about bats, especially as it is getting closer to Halloween. Do you have any questions about bats?
Have a look at some of the websites we explored and you can learn more.

Shape Hunt

Maths week began this week. A Maths area can be found outside our classroom door. To get us ready for this special event we decided to do a shape hunt last Friday in the playground. We brought out a sheet and worked together to see what types of shapes we could see. Some of the boys and girls spotted that the basketball hoop is a circle. Can anybody tell us other shapes that are in the school. Maybe you can see more in your own classroom, or even in your home! Please let us know in the comments.

Here is a video to watch at home. It is a shape rap!

We have been so busy getting back into our school routine.
In first class this means that we have a longer day.
We have lots of work to do in our new class. We started the year by learning to line up nicely. We remember to put our fingers on our lips and our hands on our hips! In the photographs you can see how great we are!
We sit in our seats and do our work quietly. We always remember to put up our hands if we have a question to ask.

Autumn

We learned so much about Autumn this year.
We collected leaves and seeds that had fallen in our area and stick them on our class tree.
We see the leaves turn yellow, brown, red, and orange.
We hear the leaves crunch under our feet.
We feel the days growing colder.
We taste the berries that grow on the bushes.
We smell the apple tarts baking from the cooking apples that have fallen off the trees.
We love Autumn! Our favourite part is looking at the animals that hibernate. We made hedgehogs from clay in art class and used matchsticks as the spikes. We loved this art lesson! They turned out really well.

Our Autumn Tree
We collected acorns, conkers and sycamore keys.
Here are some animals that hibernate.
We used leaves we collected to make prints.
