We practiced our handwriting we have been practicing.  Ms. Clarke said she would photograph the neatest. It was a hard job to pick.
Kate got her poem photographed. Orlaith did too. Look at the difference between the two poems on the page!
Well done girls.

Yesterday we carved a pumpkin and called him Pete. We recalled the story of Stingy Jack. We learned that the tradition of carving pumpkins began in Ireland. People used to carve turnips to scare ghosts away. Only when Irish people moved to America pumpkins began to be carved.
Here are some pictures of Pumpkin Pete enjoying his time in our classroom.

Pete loves reading in the library.
He also loves reading poetry

Halloween Stories

We worked in pairs writing Halloween stories. Teacher gave us an introduction and we continued writing the story in pairs. Then we typed our stories in the same partners during computer time. Here are some of our stories. The rest of them will be uploaded soon.

                                                               The Wickedest Witch
Merva lived in a rundown cottage at the edge of town.
Nobody ever passed that way.
People would avoid going near Mervas house.
One stormy Halloween night Merva thought to herself "I should dress up as a little kid and scare everyone!”
She said “ I could just stay as a witch but look a bit younger!”
She set out. First she came to a rich person’s house. She knocked on the door and a small plump little woman answered the door. She said “Trick or treat” and held out a bag of sweets. The plump woman gave her a huge handful of sweets and shut the door.
She carried on doing the same thing. When she got to the 9th house a little girl was around 5 years old. The little girl screamed “There is a witch at my door!”
Merva felt bad for scaring the gorl. She said “It’s OK, I am Merva the witch but I don’t want to hurt you!”
She gave the little girl some of her sweets and they became friends.
Merva was no longer alone and she felt very happy. That night she brought the little girl out trick or treating.

One stormy Halloween night Merva saw a zombie. She also saw a ghost. The wicked witch was scared and she fainted. When she woke up she saw it was the kids dressed up for Halloween. She made friends with the kids and she was no longer a wicked witch.

One stormy Halloween night people were trick or treating and Merva  was getting ready scare
people .
She had 15 bottles of poison.
She painted it on a lollipop.
She got on the broomstick and said “Abra kadabra take me to town!” and in one wish she was gone.
She  hid behind a rock and rang the door bell of a house.
She pointed her wand at herself and said “Abra cudabra shrink me!”
Someone opened the door.
She ran inside.
“Clipity  clopity” went her heels going up the stairs.
She found the candy and put the chocolate lollipops in the bowl.
Then  she hid on the shoerack  and waited there.
She heard the doorbell ring and someone was trick or treating.
Oh Merva was getting exited oh boy oh boy she was.
They took a lollipop and ate it.
Merva  took her broom and flew out of the room.
She saw the bodies  on the ground.
She laughed and laughed that she fell off her broom.
Her broom flew away.
“NOOOOOOOOOO !”she screamed.
“MY BROOM!”
Her broom flew back to her. She was happy then. She had finally gotten her potion to work.

One stormy Halloween night she was making the evilest potion ever. Merva disguised herself as a ghost because she wanted to rule the world. Merva was born in 1972 and the war of zombies and skeletons was on and everybody was scared of the zombies and skeletons because they were invading the world. The world was at the edge of extinction . Then one night  a black angel came to Merva’s house and convinced her to be nice to everybody.   She helped save the world.

Hazelwood

Today we went on a trip to Hazelwood to celebrate Tree Day.
Shailagh was our tour guide for the day and we were so lucky to have such a wonderful, knowledgeable guide.
When we arrived in Hazelwood we saw the ducks on the shore of the lake. We used this opportunity to play duck, duck, goose on the grass as they watched us with curiosity.
We had a similar tour last year in Kevinsfort park during the springtime. It was fantastic to have the chance to do it in a woods this time at a different time of year. The colours were fantastic.
We saw many trees, animal homes, and even got to have a taste of wood sorrell.
Our trip to the woods was finished perfectly by a teddy bear's picnic on the lake shore.
We are going to do projects based on our trip to the forest.
