This is a unique opportunity for all of us to recycle any unwanted clothing, shoes, bags, belts and soft toys, whilst helping to raise funds for the school.Bag 2 School will donate an additional 10% to The Lauralynn House,Irelands first childrens hospice. If you have already filled the Bag 2 School bag your child(ren) brought home you can use any bag you may have to donate more. The Parents Association are aiming to provide the senior block with books as part of the literacy programme and the junior block with books as part of the jolly phonics programme. All donations of unwanted items is very much appreciated.

Gladys Rooney from the Parents' Association presents Ms Caffrey with a cheque for €1,500!! With the support of our brilliant Parents' Association, we have purchased novels for each class from 1st to 6th, which will be used as part of our Literacy Improvement Strategy. A big thank you to the PA and to Ms Caffrey, who co-ordinated this initiative. An information evening on the topic of Internet Safety will take place in Sligo Education Centre (on the grounds of IT Sligo) on Monday the 27th of February at 7:30pm. This workshop, delivered by your local National Parents Council Sligo County Branch, focuses on strategies for improving communication between parents and children and negotiating boundaries relating to their internet use. Parents will get to hear young people talk about how they use the internet, why it is attractive to them and get an insight into children's main worries when online, such as cyber bullying. Parents will be introduced to strategies to help their children be responsible, effective and safer internet users.
Due to the recent cutbacks in education a protest march has been organised for all those interested in protecting our schools from the budget axe! Please see the following poster to raise awareness and get support for the march. We here at Scoil Ursula strongly encourage all of the schools parents and friends to get the word out about the march and to attend too if you can! The following is an information video for parents from the INTO on the fight against cuts to the education budget. The effects of these possible cuts are serious and long term and will impact on every child in primary school in Ireland unless each and every one of us campaign to: Give Kids Their Chance! Congratulations to Sharon Carleton and John Kennedy who were recently elected as our Parent Representatives on the incoming Scoil Ursula Board of Management. Sharon and John replace our outgoing reps, Caroline O' Hehir and Gerry Casey. We are very grateful to Caroline and Gerry for all the work they have done on our behalf since 2007. We are also grateful to Seán Feehily, who stood in for Gerry for a period while he was overseas. The new Board of Management will begin its 4-year term on December the 1st. We wish the members well in steering the school through what are likely to be difficult educational times ahead.
