Seasons
Spring begins on the first of March and continues until the end of May.
It is a time when animals and plants begin to wake up from the long winter.
Flowers like tulips and daffodils start to bloom and the Easter Bunny
comes to visit. The weather gets warmer and the days are longer.
In past times, the 1
st
of February was considered the first day of spring.
Summer begins on the first of June and continues until the end of August.
During this season the weather can be warm and sunny.
School ends and holidays begin!
People go to the beach on sunny days wearing shorts and t-shirts.
In Met Éireann, we define summer to be the three warmest months of
the year. In Ireland these are June, July and August.
Autumn begins on the first of September and continues until the end of
November.
During this season the weather starts to get cooler.
The leaves start to fall off the trees and there are few flowers.
School also starts again in autumn.
Winter starts on the first of December and continues until the end of
February. The trees are bare and the animals go to sleep.
It is very cold outside and we all need to wrap up well.
Sometimes it snows in the winter.
We also celebrate Christmas during this season!
