Winter can be a tough time for animals and birds.
Animals like the hedgehog and bat hibernate because they cannot find enough food to eat. The sheep spends the winter outside and grows a thick woolly coat to keep warm. The farmer has to feed the farm animals with food stored in autumn. Many insects and small animals die in winter. The insects lay their eggs before they die. These will hatch out in spring. The fox and rabbit are out and about in winter. They depend on their senses to find food. Their thick winter coats keep them warm. Birds fluff up their feathers to keep the chill out. It's hard for them to find food and they rely on berries and seeds to stay alive.
