Scoil Ursula National School, Sligo

School Day

The school day begins at 8:50am. Infant classes finish at 1:30pm, while pupils in 1st to 6th Class finish at 2:30pm.

Pupils who arrive late should be accompanied to the school office, where the secretary will greet them and ensure they are safely brought to their classroom.

Collection During the School Day
If a pupil needs to leave school early for medical or other reasons, parents should notify the class teacher in advance via Aladdin, outlining the reason and collection time. Pupils should be collected from the secretary’s office and signed out. For safety reasons, pupils cannot be released from classrooms to meet an adult at the school gate.

Pupil Absences
All absences must be explained and recorded on Aladdin. Under the provisions of the Education Welfare Act (2000), schools are required to notify the relevant authorities if a pupil is absent for 20 or more days in a school year. Regular attendance is essential for academic progress; however, pupils should not attend school if they are unwell.

Illness
Children who are unwell should remain at home until they are fit to return to school. In the case of infectious illness, parents are asked to inform the school promptly.

If a child becomes ill or is injured during the school day, parents/guardians will be contacted. It is very important that the school has up-to-date contact details, including an alternative emergency contact person who can act on your behalf if needed.

Lunches
Pupils are encouraged to eat nutritious food and to bring lunches that are as healthy as possible. Please read our Healthy Eating Policy for further guidance.

Please note that our school is a nut-free zone. Due to the serious nature of allergies among some pupils, nuts and any products containing nuts are strictly not permitted.

Parking and Safety
Parents/guardians are asked to be mindful and respectful of our neighbours when parking. Please do not park in the bus area along the main road. Where possible, we encourage pupils to walk, cycle or scoot to school.

Parking in the staff car park is not permitted, and all gates must be kept clear at all times. Children must cross the road at the traffic lights with the assistance of the lollipop person.
