CLICK HERE! We had a very successful Science Week with Marine Biologist, Benny Joyce spending Thursday and Friday with us talking to the children about his aquatic science displays. Thank you to Ms Caffrey for coordinating this event. We are also grateful to parent, Stephen Daly, who came in to conduct some fantastic experiments with Ms O’ Keeffe’s class. As part of our Anti-Bullying Week, children wore in odd socks on Wednesday to emphasise that, while we're all different, we are all equal and deserve equal rights and treatment. Be nice to everyone and make people happy!! We had such a fun day in school today with our annual Halloween costume competition! There were witches, ghouls, vampires and ghosts galore! Even some teachers joined in the dressing up madness. You can see the winners here and also in next week's local newspapers. Well done to all the boys and girls and especially all of the mummies and daddies who went to such enormous efforts to create these amazing costumes!
Congratulations to our first Students and Handwriters of the Month of the school year!! Well done everybody.!! Tús maith, leath na hoibre!!
We had another successful Supervalu Athletics Fest on Friday, when 38 athletes from Scoil Ursula participated in this very enjoyable annual event in Sligo IT. We had three finalists on the day. Our Junior Girls came 3rdin their 100m relay while our Senior Girls achieved 2nd place in their 100m race. Tadhg Bigwood also reached his final in the 200m individual race!! Well done to all our athletes on a brilliant display!! Congratulations to our Girls' Soccer team who travelled to Castlebar yesterday to take on the champions of each Connacht county in the Spar FAIS 5-a-side provincial finals. The girls played brilliantly and got off to a great start against St. Clare's from Leitrim, when two goals from Orlaith Scanlon ensured a 2-0 victory. Next up were Mayo champions, Bekan NS and after a very tight battle, with the teams locked together at 1-1 following a Sarah Carty goal, Orlaith Scanlon came up with a winning goal close to the finish. However, having worked so hard for that win, they were unfortunate to have to play the strongest team immediately afterwards. Carnmore from Galway had also won their first two matches and with a break between each of them they came in fresher and closed out a 3-0 victory. This meant that Scoil Ursula would need a favour from Bekan NS to stay in the hunt for 1st place, but Carnmore cruised to a 4-1 victory and were crowned Connacht champions. There was some consolation for our girls in their final match against Roscommon representatives, St. Mary's Strokestown. A 4-0 victory with goals from Orlaith Scanlon (2), Isabel Lunn and Luna Simeone confirmed a deserved runners-up spot for our girls and they received silver medals after a great season's soccer.
A big thank you to everyone who helped out with the girls this year especially John Mc Ateer, Padraic Lunn, Ms Munnelly, Mark Scanlon, Max-Daniel Simeone and all our supporters. A great achievement all round!! Comhghairdeas cailíní!!! Congratulations to our Girls soccer team who won the Sligo FAIS Spar 5-a-side tournament in the Showgrounds on Wednesday. They now go on to represent the county at the Connacht Finals in Castlebar next Thursday. We wish them the best of luck in Connacht!!!
