We went to Sligo Abbey today to have a look at the ruins of this very old building. We found it very interesting and we couldn't believe the amount of graves we saw. We tried to read some of the inscriptions on the gravestones but there were so many we just didn't have time! We really enjoyed our trip and we would recommend going to see Sligo Abbey!
We recently entered an Art Competition themed "Sligo and the Fleadh." Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann is been held in Sligo in August so we had to find out all about this event! We learned about Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann, the organisation who run the Fleadh and all the work they do to promote Irish music, language and song. We then designed these posters promoting the Fleadh and promoting Sligo. Congratulations to Olwyn who was highly commended and received a prize and a certificate. Well Done, Olwyn!
We had great fun yesterday afternoon when we tried out Ms. Hoey's 5th Class boardgames. We thought they made a great effort to create interesting games. They certainly kept us entertained. A big Thank You to them all! Jonathon Doyle comes to our classroom every Thursday. He works in Abbott and he is a Junior Achievement volunteer. With his help we are learning all about planning. Today we planned our own city and it was very good. We have been learning about Australia. Now it's your turn to do some extra research! You have to do a project on Australia. Buy a scrapbook to put all your findings into. Check the following list to help get you started. Then check the list again when you are finished. You will have to present your project to the class when everyone is finished. The following content must be included: 1. The Table of Contents (on first page) 2. Facts about Australia 3. Map of Australia with cities and tourist attractions marked. 4. Flag of Australia, coloured correctly. 5. Information about · Australian marsupials like the possum, wallaby, bilby, wombat...... · Other Australian animals and birds like The dingo, kookaburra, emu, Tasmanian Devil, crocodile ... 6. Sports 7. Fruit grown in Australia 8. Tourist attractions like Ayers Rock, Great Barrier Reef 9. The Aborigine People and their Art 10. Any other suitable information about Australia. When you are doing your homework remember to use a margin, line date and title!
This will keep your homework neat and tidy. Here are two examples of neat tidy homework. Look at the amazing boomerangs we made in our Art class. The boomerang is used by native Australian people, called Aboriginees. |
