This month, we looked at the importance of milk in our diet. We discussed where milk comes from, we had a look on youtube
on how farmers milked their cows long ago and also how we milk our cows nowadays.
Our new language experience words were: udder, teats, milking parlour, dairy products, dairy farm, milking machines and factories.
We will be making our milkshakes in the classroom soon. Yummy!!
This month we looked at becoming aware of different types of food.
We were able to distinguish between healthy and non-healthy foods.
We looked at Green Eggs and Ham by Dr Seuss.
We discussed how green vegetables and fruit are good for your eyesight, can protect you from diseases and are necessary for strong bones and teeth.
We looked at all the healthy foods on this exercise page and also the unhealthy items and discussed why they were unhealthy.
E.g. Why would too many crisps and chips not be good for you?
( Because they contain too much fat and salt for your body.)
We discussed how everyone likes a treat but we should not eat too much fat,
salt or sugar.
This month we became aware that people have a variety of needs for growth - exercise, food, drink and rest.
Our new words were porridge oats, healthy and unhealthy.

Why do doctors say we should exercise for an hour each day?
Food: What would happen if we did not eat?
What would happen if we did not eat healthy food?
Drink: What happens your body when you run a lot on a warm day?
( You sweat. This means your body is losing water. This is why you are thirsty.)

This month we discussed the work and workplace of a doctor.
Our new words were: vaccinations, prescriptions, syringe, surgery, clinic, hospital, clinic, patient, bandage.
What is the doctor using to examine the baby?
Why do we need doctors?
Why do you think Mammy brought the baby to the doctor?
When you need medicine, the doctor writes the name of the medicine on a piece of paper. What is that piece of paper called?
Where do you go to get that prescription?
What does a doctor use to check your temperature?
Who else works with people who are sick?
Here are some of the questions we discussed in our classroom.
We discussed how people, plants and animals are living things; they need water, air and food to grow and change. We chatted about if something is not alive, we say it is a non-living thing.
Is the plant/car a living thing or a non-living thing? ( a child, a book, a fish, a table etc.,)
Our new words were: living, non-living, growth and movement.
Our Faith Words this week are: altar, church, holy, kneelers, stained glass windows, steeple.
There are many places that we can play, and many things that help us to pray. The church is a special place to pray to God. People can kneel, sit or stand when they pray in the church. They can also light candles. The bell calls people to the church to pray.
Our Morning Prayer:
Father in heaven, you love me,
You're with me night and day.
I want to love you always
In all I do and say,
I'll try to please you, Father.
