A poem for Yvonne
The winds of change
Oft cause a chill
When they blow fiercely round us
But none can stop
Though one might will
That time still about us
One must not fear the road ahead
Nor mourn the road behind us
But face the new with faith renew in each new day that finds us
With health to face
A future bright
Unburdened of its pressures
With fulsome room, dispersing gloom
For embracing promised treasures
When God was handing out his gifts
To you gave generous measure
A leaders skill, a teacher's heart
A voice to thrill, a faith to chart a course
through life
You met with strife
Yet you were carried through
On wings of angels
Sent by God to soothe and nurture you
And now has come
The day to leave your school days far behind
And look to days
Where time allows
A new path for to find
For nothing ever stays the same
Or where would be the wonder
The river flows eternally
There's new life over yonder
Where you will find
A time, a place
To rest, to ease and ponder
The plans you made
The dreams you had
The tasks not undertaken
The walks, days out, the shopping trips
The soultime all forsaken
For busy days to others served
You leave them now behind you
Content, fulfilled that you did well in the tasks
that once did bind you
Tomorrow beckons eagerly
In hopeful anticipation
That you will grasp it cheerfully
With steadfast determination
To savour every dawn God sends
With years of happy meetings
For none as yet can see round bends
So trust must be the measure
You give to God
Your creator great
Who sees you as His treasure.
