There are 80 lighthouses around the coast of Ireland. They are located on the headlands and islands. Near by in Strandhill we have Oyster Island and Blackrock Lighthouses. Lighthouses are now automatic, this means run by a machine. In the past people had to man the lighthouse, lighting the big light at the correct times. We cannot become lighthouse keepers anymore as people are not needed to do the job.It was Grandparent's Day. We had a visit from Ryan's Granny, Mrs Colleary She is a retired teacher. She spoke about her own teacher from her childhood. The teacher was one of the first people to have a television. Ryan's Granny loves gardening. She brought in some plants for us to mind, tulips and snowdrops. She also brought in a Saint's Bridget's cross, buns and chocolate fruit. We did an experiment. We wanted to get the light bulb to light up using wires and batteries. It was really fun.
We had Caoimhe’s Dad, Stephen, in today to do a few experiments with Ms O’ Keeffe’s 3rd Class for Science Week!! See below. Thanks a million, Stephen!!! |
