We learned that in Australia if you are very lucky you might have a swimming pool in the back of your house!

In November we were learning about all different types of homes as well as homes in different countries. We also discovered that people can be homeless. We learned that in Australia if you are very lucky you might have a swimming pool in the back of your house! We made our own homes out of recycled materials. We worked well in groups. Here we are making our houses. Here is the finished product. We have a little village in our classroom!

We have our very own sports star in second class playing alongside all the big girls to win the final. Well done. We are very proud of you.
On the 2nd of November, Day of the Dead or Dia de los Muertos is celebrated in Mexico. It is believed that the souls of the deceased come close to the living. People spend time in the graveyards. They play music and tell stories. People build colourful ofrendas which are alters. What else did you learn? We want to say a special word of thanks to Paul in Mexico for sending us these pictures along with many others. Thank you also for answering our questions.

Kate got her poem photographed. Orlaith did too. Look at the difference between the two poems on the page! Well done girls. Yesterday we carved a pumpkin and called him Pete. We recalled the story of Stingy Jack. We learned that the tradition of carving pumpkins began in Ireland. People used to carve turnips to scare ghosts away. Only when Irish people moved to America pumpkins began to be carved. |
