We have been working on rhyming words for the past few weeks. We look at the word families and combine two to make rhyming stories. Today we made the big leap into writing poems. The children used the word families ack and and for the activity.
Here are some rhymes the children wrote in their copies:

I lived in Ireland,
After that I went to a land.
Then I got a snack,
After that I got a smack!
-Niamh

I saw a cat that was black,
The cat was in a band,
The cat gave me a smack,
I was quite grand.
-Emily

I lived in Poland,
There was a hole that was black,
My friend lived in Scotland so I had to travel in a kayak,
It was a huge island,
A tropical island,
As huge as a crack,
I had a snack,
Then I saw a cat that was black.
-Hannah

I had a snack,
Then I met someone called Mack,
He was from Poland,
He gave me a smack,
and I said "quack"
I was on land with sand,
I met a band and they were grand.
-Orlaith

I had a kayak,
The duck started to attack,
I pulled it up onto an island,
And there was a band.
They said they were grand.
That day I felt grand,
I got a new mack,
It came in a pack,
It was also a new brand.
